Rather than focusing on lighting and compositional elements, I undertook this portrait study to stretch myself in my technique and attention to detail. I spent somewhere around 30 hours completing this work from a photograph.
At the age of five, my obsession with "The Lord of the Rings" began as I played 'hobbits' with my brothers. We watched Rankin and Bass's renditions of "The Return of the King" and "The Hobbit" incessantly, drew dragons and knights in battle, and paraded around the house, adorned in emerald cloaks and brandishing wooden swords. This piece proved to be a nostalgic experience, bringing me back to simpler times.
