This first piece, done in graphite, communicates the complacency of the norm. The graphite provides definition and a clean feel with its full value scale. The hand reaches into the void, ready for change, but appears relaxed nonetheless. It introduces the concept of entering the unknown.

The second installment, done in acrylic, displays the hand swimming in the void. There is no light to be seen and the hand stretches at its full capacity. This piece communicates the sense of loss one feels when finding their way through change.

This third and final work has a stark contrast to the two pieces prior. The inverted hand, emerging from darkness, is surrounded on a light background. The mood is also lighter, upon closer examination the hand exhibits more distress. I wanted to embody the bittersweet emotion we feel when we depart from the norm.
